It's snowing, finally! January is certain to bring two things, snow and a cluttered basement. We spent the day catching up on laundry, which really consisted of switching the loads between trips down the basement steps. My basement storage area is a mess with leftover Christmas clutter.
I'm lucky enough to have a 10 year old who loves to organize and clean. Our storage closet in the family room has been the catch-all (quick stuff it in there) spot since September. She's been asking me if she could gut and organize this space for about a week. Among the hodge podge are books which needed relocated to the newly forming family library and my yarns...glorious beautiful yarn.
I managed to complete the closet project and had enough sense to stop there. January is notoriously the time of year when I start 10 different little projects and finish maybe half of them. I resisted the temptation to sort through the yarn and categorize my books. Instead we finished our work, carried a portion of holiday merriment decor downstairs and kicked butt on getting the laundry finished.
See, that's why I love a good old snowy day. I nest and get things accomplished.
We had homemade waffles for dinner and then I threw the waffle iron in the trash. Now I remember why it's been so long since our last serving of non-frozen waffles. Time for a new improved, idiot proof waffle iron.
Back to work tomorrow.
Does anyone else remember the old wringer style washing machines? The tub rotated while washing the clothes, and then mom had to manually feed the clothes through a rubber/plastic roller to wring the water from the clothes. Yes, my world of laundry is much better than her world was. Automatic washer and dryers are so taken for granted.

So we had this ancient waffle iron that originally belonged to my Gran, and every single time mum used it, it blew a fuse. Dad would run downstairs, screw in a new fuse and yell upstairs to see if the power was on in that part of the house. We'd all yell that it was, then for some reason the waffle iron worked fine second fuse around, but the waffles would stick and burn (probably something to do with my mother's love of cheap margarine) and we'd go back to eating Eggos for a year or so until she got ambitious again about making a proper breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why I just shared that with you, but do let me know if you find a good waffle iron as Danny is intrigued by the idea of waffles.
