My Mom's barbecue sauce recipe. This is what I grew up eating so of course it is my favorite. I use fresh celery if I have it because I like the texture. The celery seeds work great. Sometimes I use both seeds and diced celery. I usually triple this recipe to have extra for dipping sauce.
1 Large onion diced
2 Tablespoons Butter
3Tablespoons vinegar
3 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 Cup Ketchup
1/2 Cup Water
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tablespoons mustard
celery seeds or 3 ribs of diced celery
Melt butter in large skillet and saute onion (and celery if using instead of celery seeds) until tender and slightly brown. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low until thick.
