Edible Acorns

This whimsical treat came together in minutes with the helpful willing hands of my daughters. We are throwing a birthday party this weekend, with an appropriate theme of Autumn.
Raising four children, each having a birthday ever year, adds up to throwing a lot of birthday celebrations. It's tough to come up with something fresh and original. I actually came across this sweet morsel while browsing a magazine in the dentist waiting room. Now there's an oxymoron for you.

Family Fun magazine has inspired several neat projects over the years. These little acorn snacks or no exception. The magazine instructions stated to use mini- vanilla wafers. My store didn't sell them, so luckily I came across mini-Nutter Butter cookies to use instead. I think the substitution works better than the suggested. The peanut flavored cookie and chocolate go well together.

To make the acorns you need:

chocolate Candy Kisses
chocolate Frosting
stick pretzels
mini vanilla wafers or a likely substitute

The assembly is self explanatory, Right?

Halfway through our candy assembly we were pleasantly interrupted. Mister (aka Daddy) couldn't wait to give one of the birthday girls a gift. She is now the proud owner of a Fender acoustic (big girl...real) guitar. Our assembly process got a little silly and messy after that. If you are striving for perfection, a pastry bag filled with the frosting would make the job perfect. We were goofing off and having fun, executing a perfect product didn't play into that equation.

Happy Autumn Everyone!
